Fresno County has over 6,000 farms making it the leading farm county in the nation. Unfortunately, drought continues to make it difficult for this County. Low water years have already visited the area several times since the new millennium began. When low water years happen surface water becomes scarce and groundwater is over pumped. How does the Fresno County Farm Bureau see resolution to this problem and where should their efforts be placed? I visited Fresno County in 2009 and can tell you conditions have not improved. Water shortage has really become a deal breaker for Fresno County farmers.
